Business License
A business license is required for all business conducted within town limits, as well as businesses not physically located within the Town limits, but which send employees into the Town to sell, repair, or deliver merchandise and/or provide services to residents.
Short-Term Rental License
A valid short-term rental license is required for each short-term rental property in the Town of Silverthorne. A short-term rental property is defined as “a residential dwelling unit, or any room therein, available for lease for a term of less than thirty (30) consecutive days.” The license is required regardless of how the properties are marketed (through a management company, on-line through websites such as VRBO and Airbnb, newspaper ads, word of mouth, etc.).
Building Permits
- Building Permits (Fences over 7', decks and sheds over 120 square feet, new construction, remodels, additions, and commercial white box and tenant finishes)
- Over the counter permits are required for demo, signs, banners, window replacements, fireplaces, hot tubs, and residential mechanical and plumbing.
- Commercial Plumbing and Mechanical Permit
- Electrical permits - not submitted to Town of Silverthorne. Please submit electrical permits to Summit County Building Department.
Sign Permit
Any new sign, or any change to an existing sign, requires a sign permit.
Any property applying for a sign permit must have an approved comprehensive sign plan.
Banner Permit
The Town of Silverthorne allows businesses or organizations to display temporary banners with an approved banner permit.
Signage for special events is approved through the Special Event Permit, and is different than the Banner Permit.
Special Event and Commercial Filming Permit
A Special Event permit is required for outdoor events located on town property with an estimated attendance of 50 people or more. Other factors that may require an event permit include amplified sound, the event occurring past 10 p.m., alcohol and food service, vendor sales, temporary tents and signage, portable restrooms and extra on street parking.
Commercial film and video shoots occurring on public or town-owned property also requires a special event permit.
A Special Event Permit may also be required for public forums occurring at town facilities, parks or rights-of-ways when it is anticipated that more than 25 people will attend. More information on public forums may be found here under "Policies for Use of Town Property & Facilities."

Parking Permit
The Town of Silverthorne offers three types of parking permits to park on Town right-of-way or other Town property.
General Conditions for all Parking Permits
Parking must not block active travel lanes, fire hydrants, sidewalks, crosswalks, or access to Town infrastructure and neighboring properties. Failure to abide by these conditions and standard traffic laws may result in traffic citations, towing of vehicles and the revocation of a permit.
Liquor Licensing
The liquor laws of the State of Colorado Department of Revenue; Liquor Enforcement restricts the sale and dispensing of alcohol beverages. Any person intending to manufacture, sell, or traffic malt, vinous or spirituous liquor in the State of Colorado must apply for a liquor license.
Tobacco, Nicotine or Cigarette Product Licensing
Tobacco licenses are required to be completed annually and are $500/year.
