The Lowe Ranch
The Town of Silverthorne is under contract to purchase the historic Lowe Ranch in partnership with the Summit County Government. The Lowe Ranch is the remaining 11-acre portion of a homestead owned by Ruby Lowe that dates back to the early 1900s. The historic homestead offers access to Willow Creek, views of the Williams Fork and Gore Range mountains, access to National Forest Service land, and is adjacent to Summit County Government open space. The Lowe Ranch is located between Ruby Ranch, Willowbrook, and Willow Creek Highlands neighborhoods and is west of the Smith Ranch neighborhood. It is in unincorporated Summit County and is adjacent to the Town of Silverthorne boundary.
Pursuing the Lowe Ranch purchase is an opportunity for the Town of Silverthorne to create public open space that has potential to serve the entire community.
While a trail in this area has been contemplated in the Town of Silverthorne’s 2014 and 2021 Parks, Open Space, and Trails Plans, there is no detailed plan for a trail at this time. The purchase would preserve the opportunity for a potential trail connection from the lower Willowbrook neighborhood to the existing Willowbrook trailhead that provides access to the Willow Creek Falls trail. If a trail is planned in the future, it would go through the customary planning processes, including stakeholder outreach, community engagement, and all necessary and required land use permits, studies, and approvals in conjunction with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the US Forest Service, and other agencies.
Town Council Actions
On October 9, 2024, the Silverthorne Town Council unanimously provided the first of two approvals needed for the purchase of the property. Final approval will be considered by the Town Council at their October 23 Town Council meeting.
Community Outreach
Silverthorne Town Council and Town staff thank community members for sharing their feedback on the purchase of this property and the creation of public open space in Silverthorne. The Town will provide additional updates as more information is available.
