Whether you seek dirt single track, smooth mountain road biking, casual cruising, or all of the above, you’ll find it in and around Silverthorne. In 2020, Silverthorne was designated a League of American Bicyclists recognized Silver Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC). The Silver BFC award recognizes Silverthorne’s commitment to improving conditions for all people who bike through investments in bike education programs, bike events that promote and encourage people to choose biking, pro-bike policies, and bike infrastructure.

Summit County is home to some of the country’s best single track. Connect from downtown Silverthorne to the Salt Lick Trail system via the Mesa Cortina Connector Trail off of Zoe Court. From there, head toward the Wildernest neighborhood and pedal through fields of wildflowers, aspen groves and shady clusters of pines as you take in views of Buffalo Mountain and Lake Dillon.

Silverthorne to Ute Pass (Road Cycling)

This 31-mile round-trip route climbs about 2,000 feet. Starting from Silverthorne, cyclists head north on Highway 9 for about 10 miles along the lower Blue River to Ute Pass Road (Colorado Route 15). The climb starts in earnest on Ute Pass Road and after about 5.1 miles, enjoy expansive mountain views from the summit.

Silverthorne to Montezuma (Road Cycling)

Montezuma is an off-the-beaten-path mining town near Keystone that’s almost 15 miles from Silverthorne. The ride combines paved bike paths and roads south out of town to Dillon. Access the Summit County Recreational Pathway from Silverthorne’s Blue River Trail by ascending the switchbacks located near the Outlets and the Blue River Ball Fields. Follow signs on the pathway to Dillon and eventually Keystone. Stay on the path all the way to Keystone’s River Run Village. At the gondola, access Montezuma Road. Follow Montezuma Road eastward as it meanders uphill near a rushing river and through tall pines. Riders will be rewarded with fantastic views of the area’s peaks along the way.
