Enjoy the simple pleasures of winter with a day of sledding at Rainbow Park or Maryland Creek Park. Families with little ones will want to head to Rainbow Park for its smaller and gentler slopes, while older kids and adults will want to try the larger hill at Maryland Creek Park. Even if you haven’t been sledding in years, don’t miss the magic of slipping and sliding down the snow! And don’t forget to bring a thermos of hot chocolate to keep you warm (bring one to fill up when you order breakfast at Red Buffalo Coffee & Tea in the morning).

Snow enthusiasts have a host of snowshoeing adventures accessible via the area’s myriad of trailheads. Below are a few local favorites.

• Acorn Creek: The trailhead for this two-mile hike is about 10 miles north of Silverthorne; the peace and solitude are well worth the trip.
• Willow Creek: The Willow Creek trail is popular year-round but winter transforms this hike into a spectacular wonderland. Beyond the falls, the main trail takes adventurers into a beautiful mountain bowl, and eventually to Red Buffalo Pass (11,748 ft.) and Eccles Pass (11,900 ft.). Other trails connect to the Mesa Cortina Trail making this system great for an afternoon workout around Silverthorne.
• Salt Lick Trail to Lily Pad Lake: Salt Lick Trail sprouts a variety of secondary trails to keep you on your toes as you climb 3.1 miles (one way) to Lily Pad Lake with incredible views.

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing let you connect with the quiet, dormant natural world in its snow-covered tranquility. Many of the area’s popular hiking trails like the Salt Lick Trails and the Rock Creek Trail serve as excellent terrain for winter exploration, and the nearby Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks transforms into a winter Nordic center.

When enjoying the Nordic trails at the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks, please remember to stay out of the roped areas around the golf course and stay on the trail. No sledding, skiing or snowboarding is allowed at the Raven Golf Club, and no walking or dogs allowed on the snowshoe and Nordic trails. Parking is located at the Raven Clubhouse on Golden Eagle, 2929 Golden Eagle Road. The clubhouse is closed and one restroom is available.

North Pond Park is CLOSED FOR THE SEASON.

From December through early March, the town of Silverthorne plows and maintains the ice rink at North Pond Park, a local’s favorite. Bring your own skates (and hockey sticks) anytime from dawn to dusk. Warm up in the adjacent hut.

During the winter, North Pond transforms into a winter wonderland with space for ice fishing on the south end of the pond. Get set up with poles, bait and an ice auger at Murdoch’s. For more advanced anglers, check out the ice fishing at Green Mountain Reservoir or Lake Dillon.

Spend a summer day at one of Silverthorne's many parks picnicking! Pack a picnic lunch or pick up a to-go lunch from Enza's Delicatessen and Market or Blue Moon Bakery, and take in the mountain views as you lounge in the grass at Rainbow Park or streamside at Willow Grove Open Space.

Head to Maryland Creek Park and check out Silverthorne's 9-hole disc golf course that is free to use. The course features stunning views of the Gore Range mountains and the Blue River valley and discs may be checked out from the Silverthorne Recreation Center.

Located next to the Silverthorne Recreation Center, the Silverthorne Skatepark is a free outdoor park with a 5-foot deep bowl, bulkhead, rails, walls, a pyramid and several other surfaces to practice tricks. The Silverthorne Recreation Center offers beginner and intermediate skate camps throughout the summer.

The fly-fishing in Silverthorne is superlative and plentiful. Ask the experts at Cutthroat Anglers or The Colorado Angler for tips on where to go or plan a guided trip to make the most of your vacation!

The Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks is among the best mountain courses in Colorado. The challenging course was designed by Tom Lehman and Hurdzan/Fry and features lush rolling fairways and immaculate greens set amidst pine and aspen forests and snow-capped peaks.

In town and further out, the Blue River has world-class fishing holes, whitewater and calmer stretches, making it a draw for anglers, boaters and SUPers. Silverthorne-based Cutthroat Anglers and the Colorado Angler are reputable guiding services that also offer rentals and lessons. Rafting—whitewater and flat—is also available on the Blue, and KODI Rafting has been guiding visitors here for more than 30 years. Kayakers and SUPers are frequently on the Blue, but be advised that the Blue River is not for novices to the sport. North Pond Park is a great place to kayak and SUP if you are just beginning to test the waters!

Located at the intersection of Highway 9 and Hamilton Creek Road, North Pond is a quaint, sheltered body of water ideal for learning to Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP). The pond is also stocked with trout, features two docks, and warmer water than nearby Dillon Reservoir. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a day on the beach.

On weekends, Colorado Adventure Guides rents paddleboards on-site at North Pond Park. During the week, pick up your rental board from their storefront at the base of the Wildernest neighborhood.

In 1962 the Army Corps of Engineers completed the Dillon Dam on the Blue River to provide water for Denver; an unexpected upshot? A massive lake with nearly 27 miles of shoreline, Dillon Reservoir boasts two marinas, a yacht club, and annual stocking of trout.  Visitors will find regattas, sailing events and a myriad of opportunities to fish.

Located about 17 miles north of Silverthorne, Green Mountain Reservoir is one of the only lakes in the area that allows people in the water. This means visitors can wakeboard, tube, waterski, and swim in addition to paddle boarding and boating. The Heeney Marina rents pontoon and small fishing boats. Additionally, there are a range of campsites and cabins for rent near or adjacent to the reservoir.
