Chief of Police
Mark Hanschmidt
Mark has over 15 years experience in law
enforcement and an additional 7 years service in public safety as an EMT, Ski
Patroller and Public Safety Director at Keystone Resort. His entire
professional career has been in public service. The Town is pleased to have
someone with Mark’s talent to promote to this command position.
Mark is a licensed Colorado
Police Officer (P.O.S.T. # 15194), a licensed Emergency Medical Technician and a
graduate of the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy (CLETA). He has
served as an instructor in the Citizen’s Law Enforcement Academy and has served
as the Summit County SWAT Team’s hostage negotiator. Mark is also certified in
Crisis Intervention and Hostage Negotiations and has been a valuable member and
leader on the Summit County SWAT team for many years.
Mark is probably best known
in the community for his role in Silverthorne’s community policing efforts.
This activity led to Mark being honored as the 2005 Law Enforcement Officer of
the Year in the State of Colorado by the Colorado Law Enforcement Officers
Association (CLEOA). Mark has been the driving force and central organizer for
the Safe Summer Kickoff event and the Adopt-An-Angel program, as well as,
assisting with the Public Safety Department hosted picnics in the Sierra Villa
Madre and Blue River Apartment complexes. He has been involved in the Tip-a-Cop
program for Special Olympics and has received a Silverthorne commendation for
saving a life in the course of his duties. Mark has even won numerous medals in
the Vail-hosted Annual Peace Officer’s Ski Races!
Mark was sworn in as the Silverthorne Police
Chief on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Congratulations Mark!
